Look at the slopes of your roof that receive direct sunlight, and if you then notice that the shingles are curling and losing granules, it’s an indication that they are possibly past their life expectancy. Old and worn out shingles fail to hold water out of your house and need to be replaced as soon as possible. They could also mean that your entire roof is defective.
Unwanted Moss
While moss can look great growing in certain places in your yard, it’s not welcome on your roof. Moss is an indication that there might be trapped moisture, which can ruin a roof. A small amount of moss can be brushed away, but larger amounts may indicate that your roof is losing its ability to withstand moisture.

Poorly placed downspouts or poorly designed valley drainage can cause a waterfall effect that washes away shingle granules over time. When these granules are gone, shingles can quickly harden from sun and heat exposure, accelerating aging.
